If you have a leftover mirror from a dresser you may have painted and not used, you can easily change the look and recycle it with Fusion Metallics paints. For this project, we used the Gold Metallics colour to give this Vintage Mirror in Metallic Gold a whole new different bohemian vibe.
Materials Used For This Project
- Fusion Mineral Paint Metallics “Gold”
- Fusion TSP Alternative
- Staalmeester Flat 1” brush
- Staalmeester pointed brush
- Sandpaper
Gold Mirror Tutorial
The first step was to prep it by giving it a really good cleaning. Adde a few capfuls of Fusion TSP Alternative diluted in water. Thoroughly scrubbed the frame and make sure to really clean all the nooks and crannies.
Rinse it with clean water and allowed it to dry thoroughly. After it has dried, scuff-sanded the frame with a sanding block.
Now the fun part! paint Metallic Gold on the mirror.
In carved areas, it is easier to stipple on the gold paint instead of brushing. The first coat will give you a very translucent application ( this is normal with metallics, trust the process! ). To use less metallic paint try painting the surface you are working on a similar tone colour as a base! For example, any of our yellows would work as a base coat, Mustard, Prairie Sunset or Little Star. This would give you full coverage of your metallics in 1-2 coats.
Make sure the paint is dried fully before proceeding with additional coats as it tends to erase the paint if the previous coat is not fully dried. Since Fusion Mineral Paint has a built-in topcoat, there is no need to add anything after our last coat of paint!
