We’re riding the wave of light wood trends, which doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon, and you can achieve it by creating a Fusion™ Mineral Paint Wash.

Here’s a look at the before:

Supplies You’ll Need for a Paint Wash

• Orbital Sander & sandpaper
• Tough Coat Black Sponge
• Fusion Mineral Paint Eucalyptus
• Fusion Mineral Paint Cashmere (for paint wash)
• Vintage Gold Metallic (painted old hardware)
• TSP Alternative 
• Tough Coat Matte
• Wood Filler

Step-by-Step Guide Paint Wash:

1. Prepping the surface for a paint wash:

Start with cleaning. Fusion’s TSP Alternative is your best friend here, it gets rid of any dirt, dust and grime on an old piece of furniture.

2. Sanding Smooth for a paint wash:

Using an orbital sander, start with 120-grit sandpaper to remove the old finish, moving to 220-grit to smooth things out. A paint wash works best on raw wood or properly prepped/sanded wood!

3. Applying the Paint Wash:

Mix 1 part paint, we used Cashmere with 2 parts water. Brush it on, then wipe away the excess with a rag. We had great coverage with a single coat on this sanded down wood table! Depending on how opaque you’d like it to be, you may need 2-3 coats to reach your desired wash.

4. Sealing the Paint Wash:

A paint wash won’t have the same qualities as full-strength Fusion™ Mineral Paint. So apply two thin layers of Tough Coat Matte using the applicator sponge. This step is crucial for areas that’ll see a lot of use.

5. Hardware Harmony:

Clean and paint the old hardware in Vintage Gold Metallic. Or replace it with something that suits your style. This gives your refreshed table some beautiful finishing details!
