Oakham writing desk has had a moody makeover with one of our new colours. Continuing and connecting to the whimsical, fairy tale launch of 11 colours last summer, this launch is the dark side of that fairy tale. We want this to be an explosion of colour that steps a little away from our bright aesthetic. We hope you will love this moody, rich and dark collection as much as we do.

PREPPING AN ANTIQUE TABLE FOR FUSION MINERAL PAINT
Most of the original finish on this very old antique table had already been gone. We did give it an overall quick scuff-sanding to remove the flaking finish. We also have to sand down some of the planks on the top of the desk to even out the top as much as possible. After sanding we cleaned with Fusion TSP Alternative again. We mixed two capfuls diluted with water to give it a really deep clean.
OAKHAM A NEW FUSION MINERAL PAINT COLOUR
The colour we choose to paint the pretty antique desk was Oakham. OAKHAM is a rich dark colour rooted in grey, yet balanced equally with warm brown undertones, this complex shade is bound to make its way into the foundation of any colour palette. We like to pair it with Damask for a tone-on-tone feel or try Casement for a fresh contrasted statement

COVERAGE OF OAKHAM
You can get full coverage with one coat of Oakham, but applying the second coat gives a smooth professional finish. We used two different-sized flat brushes. A Staalmeester 1” for the sides and a slightly larger 1.5″ for the top. Using a bigger brush for larger areas helps eliminate brushstrokes.
ADDING FURNITURE WAX FOR EXTRA SHEEN
We wanted a slight sheen to the top of the table, so we went ahead and finished with two coats of Fusion Clear Furniture wax. Fusions Furniture wax is a buttery soft wax that is super easy to apply and use. Just brush or wipe on the wax, rub it into the painted area and leave for a few minutes. Then come along and remove the excess and buff the surface to a beautiful lustre sheen. A lint-free T-shirt-type cloth is best for buffing.
OAKHAM WRITING DESK
The results are just beautiful, this earthy tone looks moody and sophisticated and just what we had envisioned for this antique desk. The tone-on-tone aesthetic offers a warm interior palette that just welcomes you into the space.
