One of the most common questions we hear is: “How much does a pint of Fusion Mineral Paint cover?”
The honest answer? More than you think! In most cases at least a full piece of furniture, in some cases several for darker colours!
Real-Life Coverage Examples
🤍 Project 1: Raw Silk – A Soft, Warm White
Raw Silk is a beautiful, warm off-white with excellent pigmentation and coverage. It is not a pure white so you will always get better coverage with some pigment but the piece once painted looks like a soft off white.
For this project we completed a Large Armoire in 2 coats for full coverage. It was a very dark wood to start, you can see how incredible the coverage is. In some areas depending on how you paint you may need a light third coat. The first coat may look a little transparent, the second coat usually offers very solid coverage. Whites can often need 3 coats for full coverage.

That single pint covered the entire piece in two coats and was fully used by the end. For a lighter colour, that’s fantastic coverage.

And this is important, Raw Silk has strong pigment for a white. Many white paints require 3+ coats. Fusion’s formula allows even lighter shades to perform beautifully.
💙 Project 2: Cambridge – A Rich, Deep Blue
This darker colour was able to cover an entire Dresser, Side Table, mirror frame and the paddles you see here. It covered almost perfectly in 1 coat, but that second coat filled any imperfections. 1 Full pint was used to achieve all of this!

All completed with 1 Pint of Cambridge.

That’s a significant amount of surface area. And again, two coats delivered beautiful, even coverage.
So… How Much Can You Expect?
As a general rule:
✔ Most Fusion colours require 2 coats for full, rich coverage.
✔ A pint (500mL) covers approximately 75 square feet.
✔ That’s typically enough for a large dresser or multiple smaller pieces.
Fusion is highly pigmented, meaning you get strong coverage without heavy buildup. You’re not layering thick paint, you’re building thin, even coats that self-level beautifully.
Why Coverage Can Vary
There are a few key factors that affect how much paint you’ll use:
1️⃣ The Base Colour You’re Covering
Painting white over dark brown? Expect 3 coats.
The bigger the shift between old and new colour, the more work your paint has to do.
2️⃣ The Colour You’re Using
Some vibrant colours with pure pigments require more coats such as:
These vibrant, truer pigments sometimes require an additional coat because they don’t contain as much white or filler to assist with hiding power. If we added in more ” covering” pigments your colour would be less vibrat and more pastel looking.

3️⃣ Your Application Method
This is a big one.
Brush Choice Matters
Using a high-quality brush (like our Staalmeester series) helps:
- Lay paint evenly
- Reduce brush strokes
- Avoid overworking
- Maximize coverage
Cheap brushes absorb paint and waste product. A great brush keeps the paint where it belongs — on your furniture.
4️⃣ Rollers vs. Brushes
Rollers tend to apply paint more thinly.
That’s not a bad thing — thin coats are ideal! But:
- The first coat may look lighter or slightly streaky.
- By the second coat, coverage typically looks rich and solid.
Rollers are fantastic for large flat surfaces, but expect that you may need your standard two coats — sometimes even a light third coat, depending on the colour shift.
5️⃣ Surface Prep & Application Technique
Proper prep makes a difference.
- Clean thoroughly with Fusion TSP Alternative.
- Apply thin, even coats.
- Allow proper drying time between coats.
- Avoid overworking the paint.
Fusion self-levels beautifully, but only if you let it do the work.
Thin Coats = Better Results
One mistake people make is applying paint too thick to “get it done in one coat.”
With Fusion, that’s not necessary.
Two thin coats will:
- Look smoother
- Provide better durability
- Use less paint overall
Fusion is formulated to go far. You don’t need heavy layers.
Does Fusion Really Go That Far?
Yes. And that’s one of the reasons professionals and flippers love it.
When you calculate:
- No primer required
- No top coat required on most projects
- Exceptional pigmentation
- 75 sq ft per pint
A pint stretches further than most people expect.
It’s not just about coverage, it’s about performance per dollar.
Planning Your Next Project? How much does a pint of Fusion Mineral Paint cover?
If you’re unsure how much you’ll need:
- Small side table → Tester may be enough
- Nightstand → 1/4 pint
- Large dresser → 1 pint or less (2 coats)
- Multiple pieces → 1+ pints depending on the colour
And if you’re doing a bold colour shift? Always plan for two coats, sometimes three with pure pigments.
Fusion Mineral Paint was designed to make painting simple and predictable.
Most projects?
Two coats. One pint. Beautiful results.
And the hardest part?
Choosing your colour, but don’t overthink it! Have fun with it and Paint it beautiful!
