Table chargers are a great way to dress up your dinner table and add a touch of elegance to your tablescape. They’re basically large dinner plates to go under your actual dinner plates, but the food is not served on them. They are strictly decorative. But what happens when you can’t find that right one in the right colour scheme or look that you’re envisioning? Well, it’s easy to make your own DIY Metallic Charger Plates with Fusion Mineral Paint!
Today we’re going to show you how to make your own using our Fusion Mineral Paint Metallics line in a faux effect. Gold is still going strong in home decor and showing no signs of slowing down as can be seen by all of the gold leaf projects in our Paint it Beautiful Facebook group. Paired with pink like our English Rose, it’s a fresh and modern combination for Spring. Or if you’d prefer something a bit moodier and celestial, think of our Midnight Blue along with some greenery to tie it all together. We did this one as part of my Easter tablescape.
Here’s what you’ll need
- Charger plates (we used inexpensive plastic ones)
- Paper towels
- Fusion Mineral Paint Metallics in Pure Gold
Our metallic line is made of pure mica, making it silky smooth and super high quality. Our metallics add the most beautiful iridescent shimmer.
Step 1
Get your paper towel and dip it into your container of paint. Don’t over saturate it, just a small dab is fine.
Step 2
Take your paper towel and begin to dab it all over your charger plate, to create a faux effect with your paint.
Step 3
Continue to dab until you are happy with your coverage. This method will add a little bit of antique texture to emphasize the tones and glimmers in the metallic paint.
Step 4
Let dry for at least 12 hours to a day and you’re done! This even makes a great craft project to do with your kids. It helps them get involved in decorations for events such as weddings, birthday parties and other holidays!
You can see from my Easter tablescape, my DIY chargers added that little something extra to the place setting.
As always, if you use Fusion for your projects, share them with us in our Paint it Beautiful group. Our members there are always trying to inspire each other to try new looks and techniques.
