We gave this antique Welsh Hutch a makeover with our new colour Cambridge. We knew this old piece would be beautiful in a dark and moody colour and setting.
Materials Used to Create Cambridge Welsh Hutch
- Fusion Mineral Paint Cambridge
- Fusion Gel Stain & Top Coat Double Espresso
- Fusion TSP Alternative
- Staalmeester Flat Brush
- Chip brush (for brushing on Gel Stain)
- Roller brush and pan
- Sanding block
Prepping Your Antique Hutch for Painting
To prep the hutch for painting and because it is a very old piece, we made sure to really clean it well with TSP Alternative diluted in water. It had so many years of dirt that we had to change the water a few times and made sure to rinse it well.
After cleaning, we scuff-sanded the hutch.
Achieving a Beautiful Finish
We applied our paint with a Staalmeester flat brush these high-quality brushes help achieve a beautiful smooth finish. We applied two coats of Cambridge to the entire piece. For the larger flat areas and the interior, we used a premium-grade Staalmeester roller. You are not looking for full coverage on the first coat, 2 thinner coats give a much smoother finish.
Revamping Your Wood Finish with Fusion Gel Stain & Top Coat
We wanted to keep the legs with the original wood finish but they had a bit of scuffing. To renew and refresh the stain, we simply applied Fusion Gel Stain & Top Coat in the colour Double Espresso with a chip brush. Our brush on Gel Stain Topcoat comes in 4 colours in a beautiful matte sheen. This versatile oil-based topcoat is easy to use and gives fantastic results. Just stir really well and apply! This is our hardest-wearing topcoat in the Fusion™ Mineral Paint range.
Staging The Final Look of this Cambridge Welsh Hutch
To compliment the dark and moody look, we chose modern black plates and props to contrast with this very antique piece.
This antique Welsh Hutch looks absolutely stunning with its new makeover using the new Fusion™ Mineral Paint colour Cambridge. The dark and moody tone perfectly complements the hutch’s antique charm, while the Fusion Gel Stain & Top Coat in Double Espresso adds a touch of renewal to the hutch legs.
