It’s easier than you think to take a piece of furniture destined for the dump and give it new life with a coat of paint. Often times we hear that people think they simply just can’t do it, or it’s too much work and they’re intimated. Let us show you how quick and easy it actually is! If our favourite eight-year-old can do it… you can too! Let’s show you how he tackled this coffee table makeover using Fusion Mineral Paint. Yes, you read that right – an 8 Year Old Fusion Furniture Flip. Using our classic Coal Black and a few simple instructions, our young DIY enthusiast set to work showing us just how easy and fun furniture painting can be!
Here is the before:
Prepping Your Furniture: A Clean Canvas for Fusion
Before diving into the fun part of painting, it’s crucial to prep your furniture properly. We started by having our eight-year-old helper clean the table with TSP Alternative. This step ensures that the surface is free from any grease or grime, providing a smooth canvas for the paint to adhere to. We added it to a mister bottle for easy application.
Choosing the Right Tools: Brushes, Rollers, and More
When it comes to applying Fusion Mineral Paint, the right tools can make all the difference. For our project, we opted for high-quality brushes and rollers suitable for the type of surface we were painting. Brushes with synthetic bristles work well for smoother finishes, while our Staalmeester rollers are great for larger, flat surfaces.

Anyone Can Paint Furniture With Fusion Mineral Paint
With the prep work complete, it was time to let our eight-year-old Picasso work his magic. We provided some guidance on painting with the grain and smoothing out the paint in one direction for a professional-looking finish. Despite his age, our young DIYer tackled the task with enthusiasm and precision, proving that age is just a number when it comes to creativity and that painting with Fusion can be done by anyone.
Do You Need a Topcoat over Fusion Mineral Paint?
One question that often arises when using Fusion Mineral Paint is whether a topcoat is necessary. The beauty of Fusion Mineral Paint is that it’s self-sealing, meaning a topcoat isn’t always required. However, we do recommend applying a topcoat, on surfaces subjected to heavy use or when aiming to increase the sheen.
Due to the nature of our matte finish paint, sometimes darker colours can pick up more dust from fingers, leaving marks behind. Simply wash away with a damp cloth, or add a top coat such as our Beeswax Finish – Food Safe (all natural beeswax & hemp oil blend), Furniture Wax or our Stain & Finishing Oil – SFO-Natural for a deep rich effect.
When applying Stain and Finishing Oil it’s important to wipe it on and buff it off really well to avoid it from gumming up.
