This metallic silver dresser was previously used and it had a few areas where the metallic finish had chipped off. Nothing that a bit of paint could not fix. We decided to go with an upcycled dresser in Night Swim Milk Paint and seal it in with Hemp Oil.
Here’s what you’re going to need to complete this project:
- Steel wool
- Staalmeester Roller
- Staalmeester Flat Brush
- Night Swim Milk Paint by Fusion
- Fusion Bonding Agent/ Ultra Grip
- Fusion Hemp Oil
- Fusion Chip Brush
Step 1: Prep your piece
The fronts of the drawers had an embossed print on them, and because of the embossing, we decided to lightly sand with steel wool instead of a sanding block. After sanding, especially with steel wool, make sure you clean properly. We also vacuumed it down. We wanted to assure that no fragments of the steel were left in the crevices.
Step 2: Mix
We wanted the original crystal hardware to really stand out, so we went with a dark navy blue colour, Night Swim.
We mixed up Fusion Milk Paint by adding equal parts of Milk Paint to water. To the mixed paint, we added Fusion Bonding Agent.
Step 3: Paint
On large surfaces, we like to roll our paint first from one end to the other and then go over with a flat brush in one long stroke to smooth everything out.
Step 4: Finish
Two coats of Night Swim were needed for full coverage. After drying time was over, we sealed our milk paint with Fusion Hemp Oil , which we applied with a Fusion chip brush. We recommend Hemp Oil to topcoat over dark paint as opposed to Tough Coat as it can sometimes leave a foggy film over your dark-painted pieces.
Once your top coat has finished curing, your piece is ready for display!
