Prepping An Entryway Bench

Before diving into the painting process, it’s essential to properly prepare your bench to ensure a smooth, professional paint finish. Start by patching any chipped areas with wood filler. Once dry, sand the patched areas smooth to create an even surface. Next, remove any hooks or hardware from the bench and give them a fresh coat of gold spray paint for a touch of glamour.

Clean the entire bench thoroughly using Fusion TSP Alternative to remove dirt and oils, we then lightly scuff-sand the surface as it was slick and shiny with a sanding block to help the paint adhere 

Purple Furniture Paint – Velvet Plum

With our piece prepped and ready, it was time to apply the Velvet Plum. Using a Staalmeester 12cm microfiber roller, we apply the first coat evenly across the surface.

For those tricky grooves and detailed areas, a Staalmeester Pointed Sash will help get into those grooves. After the first coat has dried, apply a second coat for a rich, consistent finish.

Velvet Plum’s deep, regal tones instantly transform our bench, adding a sophisticated touch to the entryway bench.

Once the paint is completely dry, you have the option to add a finishing layer. While we chose to keep our bench matte to fully showcase Velvet Plum’s natural elegance, you can opt for a clear wax or one of our finishes including Tough Coat in Gloss or our SFO in Clear for added durability and a different finish. Finally, we reattached the mirror and screwed the gold hooks back onto the bench. The result is a stunning, royal-inspired piece that welcomes guests with style.
