Honestly, unlike my artsy, creative friends and neighbors, I have never been an ambitious seasonal decorator. So, I selected this lovely Home stencil by Muddaritaville Studio for this reverse-painted glass project because I can make it work all year round for our little covered porch at the back door. I chose Fusion Mineral Paint colours that can blend with fall, Thanksgiving, and Christmas when I add coordinating décor items. It was so fun to use so many fabulous colours all at once. The Fusion fan deck made it so easy.

MATERIALS

• 1 piece of 12″ by 36″ 3/16″ thick tempered glass. I got mine at a store fixture store.
• FUSION MINERAL PAINT: Divine Lavender (discontinued), Bayberry, Lichen, Enchanted Echinacea (discontinued), Cranberry, Champness, Seaside, Goddess Ashwagandha (discontinued)
• Clear Tough Coat Matte Wipe-on Poly
• MUDDARITAVILLE STENCILS: 406 Home Stencil & M0262 Small Detailed Damask
• Stencil brushes
• Staalmeester Microfiber roller & handle
• Paper towels
• Paint palette
• Rags
• Glass cleaner
• Painters tape

STEP 1

Clean and dry the glass. Center the Home stencil on top of the glass – upside down. Tape it down all the way to the edges. Center the damask stencil on top of a letter and tape it down.

STEP 2

Use a stencil brush. Dip it into Champness and offload extra paint onto paper towels. Tap over the Damask stencil. Let dry. Add another coat if needed. Let dry. Repeat for the remaining letters. Use Divine Lavender for the H and Enchanted Echinacea for the M.

STEP 3

Stencil Lichen in the flowers and Bayberry in the leaves. Use two coats if needed. Let dry between coats.

Then move the stencil down 1/16″ and over 1/16″ to create a drop shadow effect. Stencil using Ash. Use two coats if needed, and let dry between coats.

STEP 4

For the background colour, roll on two coats of Goddess Ashwagandha. Let dry well between coats. For the final coat, let dry 12 to 24 hours. Then roll on two coats of Clear Tough Coat Matte Wipe-On Poly. Let dry for 2 to 4 hours between coats. Let dry overnight or longer.

I hung my sign on top of our very crusty old door on our little covered back door area, using three screws with washers. Out of the corner of my eye I saw the little wreath for the “O” and I remembered having this decorative one, and it fit perfectly with a bit of tape. So, a fun, dimensional option.

I added fall mums, ornamental cabbage, gerbera daisies and pumpkins. I used rustic metal containers that I have on the deck for all kinds of uses as containers. The corn plant from our daughter Mia’s June wedding was looking so pretty still, as was the fern.
