We found this side table/coffee table on the side of the road. Although it has a little scuff damage and dings, we thought we could turn this trash into treasure. Following along to see us reviving a roadside find with Fusion.
From Trash to Treasure
Overall this cute side table was in good condition with no wobbles or loose joints. It was just cosmetic damage and we knew we could fix that easily with Fusion Mineral Paint.
Materials For Reviving A Roadside Find
- Fusion TSP Alternative
- Fusion Mineral Paint Bayberry
- Fusion Mineral Paint Bedford
- Fusion Black Furniture Wax
- Staalmeester Brush
Assess Your Piece For Prep
We checked all the joins and veneer were strong and in place, then we cleaned it well with a solution of our TSP Alternative. This needed a good few passes before the cloth was clean. The finish on this side table had degraded over the years and the surface was matte enough to start painting.
Bayberry Side Table
That one spot on the top has some wear right through to the bare wood, so we did one coat over that to kinda seal it so the second pass over the entire top would look even. That coat soaked in and sealed that spot so we gave the whole piece a coat of the beautiful Bayberry.
Making The Most Of The Details
After looking we thought the details on this piece were too pretty to pass over so decided to use Bedford on the legs and some black wax on the carved details. Bedford is a beautiful beige neutral with a very slight green undertone so these two colours look great together.
Waxing Over Paint
We added some black wax on the detailed skirt of this side table for a little depth, and character and to make it pop! Using the Staalmeester natural bristle brush made this job easy! Once the wax has set up a little after 10 -15 minutes or so we buffed it with a clean soft cloth to add a little sheen and buff away the excess wax.
Decorating A Painted Table
The options to decorate are endless, but we love a vase of dried or fresh flowers, some candles and of course a few coffee table books to complete the homely welcoming look. This cute piece wouldn’t look out of place as an end sofa table or in the centre of the room either. A brilliant upcycle that cost very little indeed! Win for the environment and for our living room too! Not to mention the money saved from purchasing a new one.
