Step-by-Step SFO Light Oak Makeover
Step 1: Clean with TSP Alternative
Ensure the piece is thoroughly cleaned. Use Fusion’s TSP Alternative to remove any dirt, grease, or grime from the furniture. This is the essential first step in any makeover!
Step 2: Removing the Old Finish
Use a paint stripper to remove the paint on the places you want to stain. Repeat this process for thorough removal if needed. Steel wool and a small metal brush help get into detailed edges.
Step 3: Neutralizing the Surface
With almost all strippers, you need to neutralize the surface after using them so they do not continue to work and possibly eat through your new paint coating. We used our Odourless Solvent, to remove any of the leftover stripper, neutralize and clean the surface ready for paint.
Step 4: Sanding
Sand the surfaces evenly and consistently with an orbital sander using 120 grit sandpaper. This will prep your surface ready to accept the Stain and Finishing Oil. Ensure you use even pressure and sand in the direction of the grain for best results.

Step 5: Staining with Light Oak SFO
We taped off the edges and applied a generous amount of our new Light Oak shade, letting it soak into the prepared wood for approximately 15 minutes. Afterwards, we removed the excess stain with an applicator pad, revealing a fresh new colour.
Step 6: Painting with a custom mixed Fusion™ Mineral Paint Colour.
Initially, we planned to pair this stain with Chateau. However, after applying one coat, we desired a darker contrast to make the Light Oak stand out, so we opted for a custom 50/50 mix of Everett and Wellington. Using the Fan Deck, we selected our colour. To paint the edges around the stain with precision, we used an angled Staalmeester brush.

The Light Oak SFO completely transformed the piece, giving it a modern aesthetic. The combination of the Light Oak stain and deep green custom mix created a perfect blend of elegance and contemporary style, making this once-outdated furniture now a standout piece.
