Prep the Nightstand
The first step to any successful paint project is always a good clean! I reached for Fusion’s TSP Alternative, a gentle yet effective cleaner that easily removes any dirt and oils from the surface. With this environmentally friendly cleaner, there’s no rinsing needed, and it leaves the nightstand ready to paint – no sanding or priming necessary! A quick wipe-down with TSP Alternative is all it takes to prep your piece for a perfect bond with the paint.
Create a Custom Blend with Eucalyptus & Lichen
One of the unique joys of working with Fusion Mineral Paint is the freedom to create your own custom colours. For this project, I wanted something soft, timeless, and a little bit earthy. I mixed Eucalyptus, a soft, muted green, with Lichen, a warmer, nature-inspired green, to create a beautiful, custom sage tone that feels both fresh and classic.
How to Blend Fusion Colours:
Blending Fusion Mineral Paint colours is remarkably easy. Simply take equal parts of each colour and mix them in a small container. Adjust the proportions to your liking – a little more Eucalyptus if you prefer a softer look, or more Lichen for a richer, deeper green. Fusion’s paint formula blends seamlessly, so you get an even, smooth finish without any hassle.
Apply the Paint
With the nightstand prepped and my custom colour mixed, I applied the first coat using a quality brush. Then, I waited an hour for it to dry before applying the second coat. Fusion’s paint goes on beautifully, with excellent coverage, so it doesn’t take more than two coats to get a full, even colour. The blend of Eucalyptus and Lichen looked even lovelier on the nightstand than I had imagined – a soothing, natural tone that adds character to the room without overpowering the decor.
Add Extra Sheen with Ultra Guard Satin

It dries crystal clear, so you don’t have to worry about any cloudiness affecting the beautiful custom colour underneath. One thin coat of Ultra Guard Satin was all it took to increase the sheen on the nightstand that complements the custom blend without being too glossy.

The result? This nightstand looks and feels brand new, with a unique custom colour and a finish a touch of elegance. I kept the original hardware as I felt it complemented it beautifully.
