Do you ever see a piece of furniture that just stops you in your tracks? Yeah, this one did it for us, then we took it up a notch! The stunning carved details on this sideboard needed a statement colour to really show off their beauty! Why not go with a bold colour while Creating a Statement Sideboard, Casa Rosa!

Prep
To prep the sideboard, we first cleaned it entirely with water and Fusion TSP Alternative.

Mixing Milk Paint
For this blend, we mixed up our milk paint powder with water and hand mixed at first with a small whisk and then we attached the hand whisk to a drill and mixed it until the paint and powder became really smooth, with no lumps. We then added Bonding Agent/Ultra Grip to our mixed paint to ensure maximum adherence as the finish on this piece was quite slick, and we didn’t want any chipping or flaking paint. If it was a duller finish, we could have tried getting away with not using the Bonding Agent.
Painting with Casa Rosa
It’s amazing the coverage you can get with some of the Milk Paint colours with even one coat, however, when you add bonding agent, it tends to thin out the paint a bit and make it more transparent. This piece needed two coats. We waited 4 hours between coats to give the bonding agent milk paint mix enough time to start to cure, if you can wait 12 hours that’s the best!
To get into all the grooves and details, we used our Staalmeester brush in a pouncing technique. We then used a small artist’s brush to make sure to get into all the crevices where the large brush was not able to.
Topcoat Finish
To finish this we used Wax, as it’s easy to apply wax in circular motions to this piece, getting into all the grooves. The key here is to use very little wax or you will see it build up in the crevices, you just want a light dusting essentially.
