Willowbank, a new Fusion Mineral Paint colour, is another one of the newest 9 Fusion colours to be released this summer. This collection is a continuation of last summer’s fairytale-inspired colours. This collection is the other side of the fairy tale, the dark and moody side!
WILLOWBANK: A NEW FUSION MINERAL PAINT COLOUR
We chose Willowbank for this project because of its deep complicated blue-green colour. Willowbank is a deep rich classic navy with a vibrant twist, perfect for creating a dark and moody space with its deep tone. See the colour comparisons to Liberty Blue and Midnight Blue here.
Materials used in this project
- New Fusion Mineral Paint colour WILLOWBANK
- TSP Alternative
- Fusion Paint Extender
- Staalmeester Wide Flat Brush
- Sanding sponge
PREP
As with all prep we recommend cleaning the piece first with Fusion’s TSP Alternative. If you are sanding you do not want to push contaminates into the surface. The top of the chest had some deep scratches so they were filled with wood filler after cleaning well.
After it dried, we sanded the wood filler smooth and then scuff-sanded the shiny original surface really well. The dust was removed and then cleaned again with tsp diluted in water. Just to make sure the surface was ready for painting.
PAINT
To obtain a smooth and flawless finish, we added Fusion Extender to our paint. About 15 ml to a 500 ml jar (about ¼ of the bottle). When you have a large surface that requires continuous long strides, adding Extender to the paint will give you additional open time to smooth out the paint before it dries. We painted the desk with Fusion Mineral Paint in the colour Willowbank.
Fusion Mineral Paint does not require a finish. It has a topcoat built into the formula! In this case, we opted to leave it as is. We love the smooth velvety finish.
INSPIRATION
The inspiration for this came from our mood board for this pretty shade. Rich opulence and a warm inviting feel.
This colour was designed to inspire and we think it turned out pretty amazing! Dark moody spaces are still big in the interior world and we can see why! There is such a cozy feel to them.
