With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we thought we’d inspire you with a makeover using one of our beautiful pink shades, Damask! A dusty vintage rose colour, muted and demure, Damask is a blush-mauve hybrid that is nostalgic in all the right ways. We chose it as the perfect colour to celebrate Valentine’s Day with Damask to makeover this bureau writing desk.

Prep
Cleaning is a huge part of prepping your furniture for paint. Paint can’t adhere to your surface if there is dirt, grease or grime blocking the paint from gripping to your substrate. Fusion TSP is perfect for breaking down those substances and giving you a nice, clean surface to work with. We like to dilute Fusion TSP to a 1:5 ratio of warm water and use a cloth to wipe the surface clean.
Next, you’ll want to sand. You don’t always have to sand your furniture to bare wood. A scuff sand gives you plenty of tooth on your furniture for the paint to adhere. We scuff sanded with 180-grit paper to break the previous finish and dull the surface. You will also want to give it a second cleaning with your TSP solution to remove sanding dust so you have a clean surface for your paint.
Paint it Beautiful!
Jennylyn chose a two-toned look featuring Damask and Cathedral Taupe for this desk. Using the Staalmeester Round Brush Fusion Mineral Paint was applied to the entire desk.
Once the bureau desk was painted, Jennylyn decided to add a surprise to this piece by putting in beautiful drawer liners.
Drawer liners are a great way to add special detail to a refinished piece of furniture.
