This upcycled round wood with steel base table was looking a little tired so we gave it a brand new look in a bright red colour. In this blog, we will show you our step-by-step process transformation.
Here’s what you’re going to need for this project:
- SANGRIA Fusion Milk Paint
- Whisk
- Fusion Ultra Grip
- Fusion TSP cleaner
- Fusion Clear Tough Coat
- Sandpaper
- Staalmeester Flat Brush
- Staalmeester Spalter Brush
To prep the table for painting we gave it a thorough cleaning with Fusion TSP Alternative diluted in water. After we cleaned the table, we gave it a quick scuff sand on top and then wiped back any dust with a damp rag.
We then mixed Fusion Milk Paint in the colour Sangria with equal parts water and then adjusted slightly. For this project, we wanted some chipping to happen on the wood top, so we actually mixed two batches of paint and added Fusion Ultra Grip to one batch only.
This batch with Ultra Grip we reserved for the base part of the table. We did not want much distressing here. Sangria has very good coverage, so two coats were enough to cover properly.
We let the wood top chip naturally and distressed the steel edge with sandpaper.
After painting, drying and distressing it was time to seal the table. Since a table gets lots of use, we opted to finish it with something durable like Fusion Tough Coat which we applied with a Staalmeester Spalter Brush. This size brush is great for applying Tough Coat as the wide size covers a lot of surface area allowing a lot less open time for the Tough Coat to dry quickly which causes brush strokes.
Once the Tough Coat was applied, we let it cure for 24 hours before we set up the table for gentle usage. What you’re left with after all of this work is just a thing of beauty. We can’t get enough of this Upcycled Round Table with Steel Base.
