Tea Cart Painted with Elderberry, a new fusion mineral paint colour! In this blog, we’ll show you how we took this old tea cart and turned it into a modern, moody and magnificent tea cart to fit any dining room.
Materials Used
- Our new colour ELDERBERRY
- TSP Alternative
- Sanding sponge
- Staalmeester 1-1/2” flat brush
- Staalmeester Bended Brush
- Staalmeester Artist Brush
Prepping furniture ready for paint
We gave the tea cart a deep cleaning with Fusion’s TSP alternative which we diluted in water to remove any grease residue.
After it dried, we scuff-sanded the tea cart with our sanding sponge. We then wiped it clean.
Elderberry, a New Fusion Mineral Paint Colour
Elderberry is a very vibrant yet sophisticated, delicious purple. This shade brings a moody and calculated drop of colour into any space. Pair with Lamp White for a contemporary twist or Eucalyptus for a pop of personality.
Painting the Tea Cart with Elderberry
We then applied two coats of Fusion Elderberry paint. Since the tea cart had small surfaces to paint, like the round handle, we found using the Artist brush worked really well. We also alternated with the Bended Brush. For the flat surface, we used the Staalmeester 1-1/2” flat brush.
Fusion Mineral Paint does not require a topcoat! It is built right into the formula. In this case, we opted to leave it as is. We love the smooth velvety finish.
Upcycling furniture
If you have an old piece of furniture lying around that you’re not sure what to do with, don’t get rid of it yet! Try painting it a new colour and see how it transforms the look and feel of the piece. Upcycling is a great way to make an impact on our environment while also creating something new and unique for your home. So grab some paint, and supplies and give it a try – you may be surprised at how easy it is to breathe new life into old furniture. Have you upcycled any furniture in your home? We’d love to see pictures!

When compared to our Cranberry on the left, you can see how rooted in purple this tone is, yet it still has vibrancy and purity. When compared with Winchester on the right Elderberry is a darker shade that has completely moved away from any of the red tones.
