Ikea pieces are the perfect candidate for a paint makeover! We just love giving them a whole new look with a coat of paint! Here we use our Millennial Pink Milk Paint by Fusion to get a sleek modern millennial look in this Ikea Micke Desk Makeover!
Here’s what you’re going to need for this project:
- Sanding Pads
- Fusion Ultra Grip Bonding Agent / Homestead House Bonding Agent
- Millennial Pink Milk Paint by Fusion
- Staalmeester Brush
- Fusion Clear Wax
Step 1: Prep your piece
The first thing we did was scuff sand the entire piece. Afterwards, we applied a thin layer of Bonding Agent (also known as Ultra Grip) all over. Typically we recommend you mix the bonding agent in with your paint, but on a super slick piece like this, it doesn’t hurt to put a straight layer of Bonding Agent first.
Step 2: Get mixing and add Bonding Agent if necessary for adhesion
Mix up some Millennial Pink Fusion Milk Paint powder with water. For the desk, I mixed about ¾ cup powder and ¾ cup water. Keep mixing for a couple of minutes with a hand whisk. Let stand until all air bubbles are gone, about 5 minutes.
Once air bubbles are gone, add about ¾ cup of Bonding Agent.
Mix well.
Step 4: Get to painting!
Apply 2 coats of Fusion Milk Paint using a Staalmeester Round brush.
Step 5: Add your Top Coat
Apply Fusion Clear Wax over the Fusion Milk Paint with Staalmeester Round brush
Remove wax and buff once finished applying. Come back to your project in 24 hours and ensure there is no wax left over by giving it a good buff. Then you can finish setting up your newly finished desk to complete your Ikea Micke Desk Makeover!
