This method is perfect for those looking to add a unique touch to their home without breaking the bank. Follow along & watch the video to see how to achieve a smooth finish with Milk Paint!
Step 1
Before we begin, it’s important to prep, clean, and sand your surface as needed. This will ensure that the milk paint adheres properly and produces a smooth finish.
Step 2
Next, it’s time to mix your milk paint. Typically, you want to use a one-to-one ratio of water to Milk Paint powder for opaque coverage. Depending on the color of your milk paint and the color you are covering, you may need anywhere from one to three coats.
One of the best things about milk paint is how quickly it dries. You only need to wait 20 to 30 minutes between coats, giving you plenty of time to work on your piece. If the paint leaves a small amount of grit and texture behind, simply use a fine grit sandpaper and pass over it once or twice to smooth the surface.
Step 3: Smooth Finish with Milk Paint
Now comes the fun part – the finishing touch. This is what we like to call the “magic moment.” For this step, we recommend using steam and finishing oil in natural, which has a beautiful, soft satin sheen and adds durability to your piece. All you need is one coat, but if you’re looking for a higher sheen, simply add more coats.
In this example, we wanted to leave the front of the piece natural to add a little extra character. The result is a modern and sleek twist on a once boring and bland piece of furniture, perfect for a modern condo bedroom.
Overall, milk paint is a great option for those looking to update their furniture without breaking the bank. With a little prep work and some patience, you can give your furniture a modern and unique touch that is sure to impress.
