Many people have that one piece at home that they aren’t exactly sure what to do with, so it sits around until inspiration hits. Well, here is our one piece that we had finally gotten some inspiration to do something with. We hope you love this chippy chic bar cabinet makeover with Milk Paint by Fusion.
Here’s what you’re going to need for this project:
- London Fog Milk Paint Powder by Fusion
- Fusion TSP Alternative
- Beeswax Finish
- Fusion Mineral Paint “Plaster”
- Fusion Tough Coat
- Chip Brush
Step 1. Prep
Seeing as how we wanted the paint to chip we decided not to sand this piece down. We only cleaned it well with Fusion TSP Alternative. Since we cannot know in advance how much and where exactly the milk paint chips, we applied some Beeswax Finish to some of the edges of the cabinet with a chip brush. This will ensure that it will chip in those spots.
Step 2. Mix
To prepare our paint, we mixed up some Fusion Milk Paint Powder in the colour London Fog.
It’s super simple to mix Milk Paint, just mix 1 part Milk Paint powder to 1 part water. Give it a little whisk for a minute then let it sit for about 10 minutes so all the powder dissolves, and then stir again. It’s important to continuously stir as the pigments are heavy and will settle to the bottom, and hint – the pigments are what cover oh so well!! The water stays at the top – so mix it up!
Step 3. Paint
Because the cabinet was very dark and our paint colour was lighter, it required 4 coats of milk paint to get total opaque coverage. For darker colours, you can usually get away with half.
To our pleasure, the chipping started to appear as soon as the paint dried. We wanted to refresh the interior too. For the interior, we painted 3 coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in the colour “Plaster”.
Step 4. Finish
To finish the piece and to prevent too much chipping from happening, we sealed the cabinet with Fusion Tough Coat. This will automatically stop more chipping and protects your piece at the same time. We hope you loved this Chippy Chic Bar Cabinet Makeover as much as did!
Once everything is all said and done, you’re left with an amazing chippy look like this!
