These two solid wood bookcases got a new look using one of the newest released shades from Fusion Mineral Paint in the colour Cast Iron. These Twin Bookcases are now a perfect off-black in Cast Iron.
Materials Used in The Cast Iron Twin Bookcases Makeover
- Fusion Mineral Paint Cast Iron
- Fusion TSP Alternative
- Sanding sponge
- Staalmeester flat brush
- Artist brush
- Razor blade
- Tack cloth
We first gave it a good overall cleaning using Fusion TSP Alternative. 1-2 capfuls diluted in a pail of water. The TSP Alternative will remove any dirt and grease not always visible to the eye. Our TSP alternative is a powerful degreaser with the benefit of being eco-friendly and bio-degradable.
Once dried, we gave it an overall sanding, as the surface had a slight sheen. Scuff sanding will ensure that the paint adheres properly to the wood. Make sure to vacuum all the dust from the sanding and wipe down your furniture again.
Before painting, a good tip is to wipe your furniture with a damp cloth to remove all dust. We highly recommend this, especially before using a topcoat.
Painting Cast Iron Twin Bookcases
Two coats of Cast Iron were applied using a Staalmeester Flat Brush.
For finer detail, like around the glass, we used an Artist’s brush. We opted to paint only the exterior and leave the original stain finish on the interior. We did not tape around the windows but simply used a razor blade the next day after the paint dried to scrape off any paint that smudged on the glass.
Upcycled Painted Furniture
To style this lovely pair, we went with the trendy dark and moody look and we absolutely love it!
If you have not yet tried it, take some uncomfortable design risks and lean into a more saturated tone. You may be surprised by just how it will make you feel! Not only can a more saturated tone make you feel more comfortable and confident, but it can also help your interiors stand out. So don’t be afraid to push the envelope and take your design to the next level. You might just be surprised at the results!
