Boho style glam Milk Paint Makeover! Have you ever seen a colour that stops you dead in your tracks? Its hard to do in a world full of white and bright furniture, but with Fusion Milk Paint’s line of vibrant and rich colours, you can turn any piece of furniture from dark and dingy to milk paint boho glam! Take this dark buffet for instance. All the gorgeous details are lost in the brown stain making it hard to really see the true craftsmanship.

PREP
We started this makeover process by prepping the piece for a great paint foundation. First, we removed the flaking wax residue using Odourless Solvent. Just simply apply with a rag or brush and allow a few minutes for it to breakdown the wax. Then wipe it away with a clean rag.
After two hours of letting the solvent evaporate, we used a 1:4 ratio of Fusion’s TSP Alternative to warm water and scrubbed down our piece with wiping cloths.
Next, we wanted to lightly scuff sand the piece for a smooth surface. We definitely wanted heavy chipping so we just used our sanding pad to smooth down any raised fibres.
We mixed up our milk paint using a 1:1 Ratio of milk paint to water. Simply stir with a small whisk or paint stick. Then we let it sit a while to fully blend while we finished our prep.
PAINT AND PAPER
The first coat of paint is quite the striking colour. As the paint begins to dry the colour will go matte and dull a bit, this changes when the topcoat is added. Trust the process.
Next we used our sanding pad to remove any flaking and chipping paint. Since milk paint naturally chips on its own when applied to a surface with a finish on it, it’s always quite the surprise to see your final results. Sometimes you can focus highlighting details by rubbing your sanding pad over the raised edges for a more authentic look. The choice is yours! To create additional chipping, add some wax to the areas before applying milk paint where you really want the paint to fall off.
FUSION DECOUPAGE
The insides of doors to cabinets and buffets are prime decoupage spots! Simply pick out a coordinating paper and apply a heavy layer of Fusion’s Decoupage & Transfer gel.
Next apply your paper, pressing firmly to create a bond. Use a plastic scraper to push out any air bubbles that could interfere with adhesion. Afterwards, add another layer of decoupage gel to seal it in and now you have a beautiful focal point for the interior of your piece!
BOHO STYLE MILK PAINT GLAM
One way to add a little glam to your furniture is by dressing up the accents with metallic paint. We used Fusion Metallics Pale Gold to further highlight all the ornate details and hardware. The Staalmeester artist brush is perfect for painting smaller, finer areas.
Between the bold vibrant colours of the milk paint and the distressed, metallic accenting, this piece is now the star of the furniture show!
BOHO STYLE
Let’s talk about this colour, Hawaiian Hibiscus. It’s not quite pink nor red but a little bit of both which is what makes it so stunning. This colour is exactly that of a tropical hibiscus flower which is why we can totally see this piece in a boho style, coastal themed home.
The best feature on this piece is definitely it’s details. The natural distressing of the milk paint and chippy, aged look play wonderfully with the metallic accents. Your eyes are just naturally drawn to all the pretty details with the metallic paint.
And we definitely can’t forget the fun pop of texture on the interior doors! Boho glam at its best.
We hope you enjoyed this makeover. We loved being able to use a variety of Fusion products to give us a one of a kind look that will last for years!
