With the holidays here, it seems like our days are filled with endless preparations of sweet treats, festive decorating and family gatherings. Now that the trees are up and the stockings are hung, why not give a piece of furniture a festive makeover too? Follow along for A Quick Holiday Chest of Drawers Makeover

This tall chest of drawers was sitting in our storage but we decided it would be a centrepiece in our holiday décor. A little Fusion Milk Paint would go a long way toward transforming this from boring brown to sassy Sangria!

Below is a list of supplies you’ll need to complete a similar project.

• Fusion Milk Paint Sangria 
• Fusion Antiquing Glaze
• Sanding Pads
• Foam Brush
• Staalmeester Flat Brush
• Wiping Cloths
• Topcoat of Choice

As always, the best foundation for a durable finish is always a clean surface. We used a 1:4 ratio of Fusion TSP Alternative to warm water and gave the dresser a quick spritz and scrub down. We wiped away the dirt and grime with wiping cloths. 

Next, we gave the surface a light scuff sanding using a 180-grit sanding pad. This will give our milk paint some great adhesion while still allowing us to distress the edges and high points easily.  

We picked the colour Sangria because it’s a lovely deep shade of red that has tones of cranberry, rose and wine. No wonder the name is a perfect fit. We mixed up equal parts of warm water to mix the paint, whisked it until smooth and let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the pigment to fully dissolve. 

We used our Staalmeester Flat brush to paint because of the long flat surfaces this dresser had. This brush is extremely versatile and allowed us to paint this piece quickly and easily. 

Although this colour is highly pigmented, red colours usually require multiple colours for an opaque finish.  This is one coat of Sangria as it is drying. 

Finally, we wanted to give this piece some age and character. We distressed the high points to allow the original finish to come through. Next, we used Fusion Antiquing Glaze to deepen the colour of the milk paint. We just wiped on a hefty amount and wiped back the excess. After 12 hours of dry time, you can seal with the topcoat of your choice.

A Quick Holiday Chest of Drawers Makeover

With our piece finished in this festive colour, it was time to dress it up with a little holiday décor! 

Even though the name reminds you of a deep, cool wine on a summer day, it’s the perfect colour to keep in your home not only during the holidays but year-round. The colour is transitional and fits every kind of design style for the seasons.

The antiquing glaze gave enhanced the lovely details that otherwise would have been lost. You can see how it’s given us some authentic age and character that you can only replicate and enhance using true milk paint.

Pieces like this make great statement pieces in your home. The colour commands your attention and the versatility speaks for itself. You can use this as an entry piece during the holidays, a bar in your dining area, and a dresser or media console during the remainder of the year.
