Adirondack chairs are amazing and last a long time. So sometimes they need to be up cycled every now and then. We thought, “Let’s make these two Adirondack chairs pop up with colour”. Because of its plain, raw pine wood look, milk paint is a great choice to use. So, we started our makeover.. Say hello to Hawaiian Hibiscus 😉
Supplies you’re going to need for this project:
Mixing it up
When painting on raw wood there is absolutely no prep required. We simply mixed up equal parts Fusion Milk Paint Powder in the colour Hawaiian Hibiscus and water. To make sure all the pigments are dissolved stir it well and let it stand for a couple of minutes. Keep stirring every few brushstrokes to make sure the beautiful pigments don’t settle to the bottom of your container.
Painting bare wood
Hawaiian Hibiscus has a vibrant rosy colour, with great coverage that covers in one coat. You can use 2 if you want. We found one coat was enough to cover the pine wood. We also painted a surfboard base in the same colour for a little extra fun.
Fusion Tung Oil topcoat
We applied Fusion Tung Oil diluted with a bit of Odourless Solvent to seal the paint since these chairs will be spending time outdoors. We dilute the first coat for better absorption and faster curing time. Tung Oil is a great outdoor topcoat and will protect your projects for many years. Find out more about Tung Oil here.
The first coat of Tung Oil got absorbed within hours. We recommend a minimum of 3 coats of oil for full protection against outdoor elements. Now you’re left with a couple of revitalized chairs to enjoy in the beautiful sun! This colour is just dreamy and makes you smile.
How fun is that surfboard?
Check out this video where we painted a kids chair and used Hemp Oil for protection.
We’d love to see what you make! Therefore, share your completed summer project with us in the Paint It Beautiful Facebook Group.
